I'm new...
Right, so now I joined this community as well to celebrate the nerd lifestyle... I'm 19, female and I live in Germany.

My nerd list: ^^

1. I'm obsessed with Harry Potter. I read fanfiction about it and I love dicussing theories about what will happen in book 7. I'm also obsessed with Professor Snape.
2. I also love Tim Burton movies. Occasionally, I read fanfiction for them.
3. I also read a lot of other fanfiction.
4. I spent way too much time online (at least 3 hours a day, often more).
5. My favorite site is www.godawful.net
6. I have a huge collection of Disney Comics, mostly european (Italian) ones about Micky Mouse or the Duck family.
7. I still sleep with a stuffed animal.
8. My favorite singer is Kate Bush.
9. I was pissed off about the 2004 "Phantom Of The Opera" movie because it was, IMHO, to nice and commercial, although everybody else enjoyed it. I prefer the original book (I'm reading it in French right now).
10. Besides English and German, I also speak French. (I took Advanced French in school and actually ENJOYED it.) I'm also learning Russian.
11. I really enjoyed math class when I was in school (and I was rather good at it, too!)
12. I know a lot of weird, completely useless facts. For example, that the statistical risk of death through being kicked by a donkey is higher than the risk of dieing in the plane crash.
13. I love reading anything and everything- classical literature (I have a huge Kafka poster in my room...), fantasy, poems, non-fiction, magazines...
14. I also enjoy writing. I wanted to be a writer since I was five.
15. I love the Disney cartoon show "Darkwing Duck", and I'm really mad they don't show it on German TV anymore.
16. I think that most people my age are strange, and I am very awkward when I have to communicate with them.
17. I have quite a number of friends, and even a boyfriend, but they're all freaks and proud of it.
18. I consider being called a freak a compliment.
19. I wear glasses (I got my first pair at seven).
20. I think guys in glasses can be really cute.
21. There are days when I don't bother brushing my hair because I'll stay indoors all day anyway.
22. I graduated from school about two months ago and I already miss it (the academics, not the people)- I can't wait for university to start in September.
23. I have Russian artist friends who run an experimental film studio and I LOVE starring in their films.
24. Most important of all: I take pride in being a nerd.

Anti Star-Wars Movement
Hello, I'm Howard Tuttleman. I'm from Detroit and I'm looking for like-minded people to boycott the Star-Wars movies. If I've got you, go to my web-site for more info http://www.howardtuttleman.com
For the rest of you, please just read on. This will make sense in the end and I'm sure you will agree.
You are probably ready to jump down my throat, so just calm down. I am pretty mad right now too. You see, when I was younger I never happened to catch The Star Wars like so many of you did. Sure, I was aware of it quite a bit, and had heard OF it a lot. As a kid there were plenty of times when bullys would punish me whith wiffle-bats that they pretended were light-sabers, and I would always get drafted to play a Speeder-biker or an Ewok when everyone else got to be main-characters. Obviously these things left a bad taste in my mouth about the Star Wars. I started getting my parents to buy me the action-figures and vehicles, and that brought plenty of kids over to my house, and people THOUGHT I had seen it because I had quite a collection.

So when I finally saw some of the novels at the library, I gave-in and picked up the first in the series. It completely captivated me and made me realize exactly what was going on, and I didn't even HAVE to see the movie. I moved on to the next 2 books shortly after, and now reading them has become a yearly tradition for me. I was enthralled by the Socio-Political struggles and the in-depth character building so much in fact that I began to realize something. That something truly this special would be significantly weakened by condensing them into 3 ridiculously short Hollywood-style movies. The concept of these movies is just laughable to me that they would even TRY something like this. I therefore established "The Star Wars Movie Boycott Movement".

You see, when I read the novels I have very vivid pictures of what certain space-ships, monsters or planets look like, and the best part is that I can imagine whatever actors I want playing the main-characters. I obviously imagine myself as Luke because I feel that I really capture the character well (especially in the 3rd book). My best picks for the other characters is how I visualize Han-Solo as being Patrick Swayze. He has that dashing charisma that the character MUST have. I imagine Darth-Vader's voice as this guy Lance I know who is a real bully-type just like the character. Another one I have is harder to explain but I will try. I chose my dog Morris to be Chewbacca, but now he is 8 feet tall and can stand on 2 legs. If an element of the story is too hard to imagine, that is the ONLY time I will accept an out-side influence and refer to my action-figures.

Do you see what I'm doing here? I am able to personalize the story, whereas you can only imagine it how the movie tells you it is. I can now enjoy the story far more, and on so many more levels than you can. In conclusion, I know that quite a few of you have seen these movies, so I guess it's too late for you to imagine what is actually possible. The people I am trying to get through to are the innocents that whose minds are blank at the moment like mine is lucky to still be. The answer is NO. Buy the books instead, and save yourself a ton of money in the proccess, and imagine it how YOU want to. Not greedy Hollywood movie-makers.

Hi Ya'll. I be nerdin' it up.

I'm a nerd in every way possible. I'm 1337 +0 +3|~| |v|4><, I'm a stage crew kid, I prefer Latin over any other language, I read the Classics as opposed to Chicken soup for the teenage soul*shiver, blerg*, and I spend more than 40 hours a week on the comp(mostly memorizing internet phenomena). I prefer Sci-fi but also dabble into fantasy. Kirk forever!

Does anyone remember classic Sci-Fi Channel? When they showed Sightings and Classic Trek constantly? I miss that.

Introductory post.
I decided to join this community because I'm pretty bored right now and looking for more communities to join, and this one seems pretty fitting. Fitting because I'm kinda nerdy. Nerdy enough to read the community info and go "Hey, they spelled Spock wrong! How dare they." Sci-fi is my genre of choice. I have yet to read a fantasy book that I like.

cosplay & fashion design: when, where, how?
hi. i've been wanting to do a bit of cosplay for a long time. now that i've finally finished my yr 12 exams, i have the time! (but not the cash & sewing machine *damn*)

anyway, just to get the basics right. when, where & how can i do something vaguely resembling cosplay in australia or in the world?

for any particularly event, is it more manga-based or period-costume-based? are there anything resembling large gatherings of romantic goths where i can make some money with a bit of fashion designing work?

as for designing: do i need a tertiary degree? if not, when, where & how can i start? is it better to start by selling on ebay or local markets? if anyone has experiences in these, please help!

New Manga Webcomic: Wandering Souls
Check out a new manga webcomic at www.geocities.com/blackwolf13michael/Wandering_Souls.html
Many cultures compose the rich amalgam that is futuristic, yet almost reduced back to Feudal, Japan. A demon ronin with nothing to lose seeks a ki-lin (I warned you it's an amalgam), picking up a band of those as lost as he is along the way. They are wandering souls, criss-crossing this strange land in search of...something.

greetings from a fellow nerd
hi. i'm...well...a nerd, as you may have guessed.

1> i love reading, esp fantasy.
2> i love most of my school subjects & am looking forward to the academic side of university.
3> i've done well in most of my school subjects, even some of the ones i don't like.
4> i love nerdy/geeky jokes.
5> my mum buys my clothes most of the times cos i don't have a job. :_-(
6> i take my responsibilities seriously.
7> my friends are all nerds.
8> i like being a nerd.

anyway, here's my lame-ish sort of list. i'd love to gather & share knowledge/interesting facts regarding to pretty much anything at around high school/uni level, especially in areas of science, engineering & technology. i know this sounds a bit corny, but i reckon us nerds need to have a good "support network", so if anyone has any nerdiness-related problems i'll gladly offer a hand. *blush*

I (usually) talk and type obeying all the laws of spelling and grammer, aside l33t and alt. spelling. I have a Star Wars poster in my room, along with a giant life sized figure of Luke Skywaler. I've seen z'Return of the Jedi' over 100 times.

Name: Heather
Age: 17
I am uber-nerdy because: i am a complete computer nerd, PSP studio is my best friend, and i am in love with an iMac G4 <3 instead of being one of the cool kids who go to football games for fun, i am the kid who brings the cannon and films it and sells the highlight tapes at the end of the season to take money from the jocks and cheerwhores. I really like techno music and super nintendo is the supreme game station. i use html more than any other normal person, sometimes i find myself writing html on paper. >_< I am in TSA and am competing in Chattanooga or somewhere like that this year and i have to make a 5 minute film, which i cant really find a good idea for just yet. i watch TechTV alot *blushes* and when im not watching that i either watch cartoon network or the independent film channel. to look at me you would think i am TEH "goth", but i am a hardcore uber geek at heart. pet me.

Who's hotter: Papa smurf. heres why.. papa smurf, can i lick your ass o_O

ANYWAY... if you have any ideas for a 5 minute film i can make let me know.

PSP help
I'm sick and tired of having to use Microsoft Paint, and I REALLY REALLY want Photoshop. Now, there has to be some PSP n3rds out there that can help me by answering a few questions!

1. How much does it cost?
2. Where is the best place to get it?
3. I assume I should get PSP 8, is that correct?
4. I have Microsoft X-P, a PC program, is that a problem? Will it run just the same?

hello. my name's Liberty, and i'm a nerd. more of a geek than a nerd, but there's a slim difference in my opinion. I'm a book nerd. love to read. i'm one who'd rather stay home to finish a good book than go out with friends. consequently, my speech is most nerdlike as well. (take that last sentence, for example.) I'm a smart nerd too. But that's mostly accidental.

anyway, i just need a good place to revel in my nerdliness in all its unabashed glory. hoorah for n3rds.
